In 2011, the Sequim School District Board of Directors accepted a
recommendation from district administration to close the Sequim
Community School building and relocate district programs housed in the
building to other buildings in the district. The report of the 2008
Facilities Committee summarized the buildings deficiencies:
In 2012, programs began moving from the Community School into other spaces in the District as they became available. Building systems were decommissioned and now the building awaits demolition. Funding must be secured to continue with demolition. The project is included in the November 2015 School Construction Bond proposal. The District anticipates that demolition of the building will result in $4.3 million in state matching funds made available to assist with construction costs associated with elementary school improvements.
