Introduction to Social Thinking
What is Social Thinking?
Social
Thinking is an important component of the Social Emotional Learning
(SEL) tool kit in the Sequim School District. Our Speech Language
Pathologists and many of our counselors, teachers and paraeducators use
social thinking concepts and materials to help students learn to
function more effectively in the classroom and playground. A number of
or staff have received training from “Social Thinking®,” an organization
started and lead by Michelle Garcia Winner.
Excerpts from the Social Thinking® website:
“Our
mission at Social Thinking® is to help people develop their social
competencies to better connect with others and live happier, more
meaningful lives.”
“At Social Thinking®, our mission is
to help people develop their social competencies to better connect with
others and live happier, more meaningful lives. We create unique
treatment frameworks and strategies to help individuals as young as four
and across the lifespan develop their social thinking and social skills
to meet their personal social goals. These goals often include sharing
space effectively with others, learning to work as part of a team, and
developing relationships of all kinds: with family, friends, classmates,
co-workers, romantic partners, and more.”
