District Communication

Dear Sequim Families,
Earlier this morning the school district was notified of an active shooter event in the area of Priest Road. School buses were advised to reroute away from the area. The event has now been contained and we anticipate that afternoon transportation will likely resume in normal fashion.
At no time were school campuses under threat. Both Sheriff and Sequim Police Department personnel have actively communicated with the school district this morning to both update and advise our protocols.  The event was not close to our campuses; and law enforcement advised that our school routines may proceed as usual (which includes our protocol of locked exterior doors).  Some students who live on Priest Road/Priest Lane or close (Hendrickson) will not have access to morning bus transportation until or if we are advised that buses may proceed in the area.
Please reach out with any questions you may have regarding our morning transportation change, or our school safety protocols. Please know the Sequim Schools continue to prioritize vigilance and a safety mindset along with communication that can assist you in knowing the current status at our schools when issues arise.
Sincerely,
Regan Nickels
Superintendent, Sequim School District

Current Department of Health Flowchart
Flowchart for Schools

New Protocol for Schools REQUIRE:

  • Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 are required to isolate at home for five days and inform your school. If symptoms improve after five days and they have had no fever for the past 24 hours without using fever-reducing medications, students and staff can come back to school.
  • Regardless of vaccination status if you have been exposed to COVID-19, but are not ill, you may continue to attend school. You should consider testing as soon as possible after exposure and wearing a well-fitting mask for 10 days after exposure.
  • Students and staff returning to school after their five days of isolation:
  1. wear a well-fitted mask from days 6 to 10, and
  2.  remain masked for sports and other extracurricular activities on days 6 to 10.
