The Washington State Dept. of Health and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) released a newly updated Infectious Disease Control Guide for School Staff (wa.gov). There are changes to a variety of conditions including Covid-19 and respiratory illnesses. Additionally, we now no longer exclude for pinkeye (conjunctivitis) although we strongly suggest treatment from a health care provider.
To be compliant health services only notifies family of known school concerns of health conditions under the direction of our local health jurisdiction, Clallam County Health and Human Services (CCHHS).
The following conditions require a licensed health care provider’s authorization and/or additional restrictions for school attendance.
- Hepatitis
- Meningitis
- Pertussis (whooping cough)
- Polio
- C. difficile
- Chicken Pox (varicella)
- Herpes Simplex Virus (cold sores)
- Impetigo
- Mumps
- Rubella (3-day measles)
- MRSA
- Ringworm
We will continue to ask parents to notify the school of any infectious disease that their child has been diagnosed with, and health services will notify the primary teacher (confidentially), so the child can be better monitored when in their care. Health services will also send the primary teacher information to help prevent the spread of the particular illness in the classroom as appropriate.
Sincerely,
Sonja Bittner RN
