Learning Support Services FAQ

Special Education (IEP), 504 Plans (504s), and Individual Health Plans (IHPs):

Will students be placed in their grade level building?
Nearly all of our students with IEPs, 504s, and IHPs will attend the school with their grade level. Families with questions can connect with their child's case manager for more detailed information as it becomes available.

Will Special Education teachers, therapists, and counselors be placed in individual buildings, or will they work in multiple schools?
Currently many of our therapists and some teachers work with students in more than one building; counselors and staff in a student support roles, are assigned to specific buildings.

What plans are in place to transition special education students to a new school?
Transition plans for all students will be created and most of our students with IEPs, 504s, and IHPs will participate with their grade levels. Teachers and therapists will work with families to create additional transition options where needed.

Will each school have a psychologist?
Each building will have access to school psychologist services.

How will this affect the Life Skills class at Helen Haller? Does Greywolf have the space and washer/dryer, kitchen, changing area etc.?
Greywolf has classrooms that would accommodate our students with IEPs, 504s, and HIPs. When Greywolf was built, a classroom was designed specifically with a life skills program in mind.

Will the services my student receives remain the same under this Reconfiguration Plan?
Yes. All services and accommodations will follow the students with IEPs, 504's, and IHPs.

How will special education class size be affected?
The reconfiguration will not impact class sizes for students with IEPs, 504s, and IHPs.

How will student-specific knowledge be shared across schools?
There is frequent communication with teachers, related service providers, school counselors, and mental health staff. Processes for transitions are in place across the district and will be tailored to each student's needs.
