About Us
The pioneers who settled the Dungeness Valley had a commitment to the education of the citizens who called this area home. County commissioners first levied a mill tax for schools in 1859. Sequim Schools serving families and students of Clallam County since 1861 with a one-room schoolhouse on the Abernethy farm opening in 1861 for a three-moth summer school. In these early years, there were as many as 20 one-room schoolhouses dotting the landscape and by 1868 the one-room schoolhouse was at capacity and a two-story school was built in 1911 with the first graduating class of four in 1915.
The heritage stands still today with the brick building along Sequim Avenue that was completed in 1922 with the Auditorium added in 1935. The vision of the pioneers lives on in this amazing community resource widely used for theatrical performances, and community events.
Currently, there are no students within the walls of this original school. Administrative offices, and meeting spaces of the school board still work to foster the educational programs and operations of the Sequim School District.
Sequim School District proudly serves approximately 2500 student's pre-school through grade 12. With two elementary schools, one middle and one high school, and two parent partnership-schools (k-12, one in person and one virtual) bringing the best of learning opportunities to the students of the Sequim area.
