If you are unable to work or telework due to specific COVID-19 related reasons, you may be eligible for up to two weeks of paid sick leave per the new law entitled the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) effective on April 1, 2020.

The qualifying reasons are because you:

  1. Are subject to a Federal, State or local quarantine or isolation order
  2. Have been advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine
  3. Are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and are seeking a medical diagnosis
  4. Are caring for an individual subject to an order described in 1 or 2 above
  5. Are caring for your child whose school or place of care is closed (or child care provider is unavailable) due to COVID-19 related reasons, or
  6. Are experiencing any other substantially similar conditions specified by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

The rate of pay you could receive depends on which reason you are unable to work/telework.  It is also important to note that depending on the qualifying reason for the use of this leave, that not all compensation and hours are reportable to the Department of Retirement Systems.  Note:  Employees are eligible to purchase optional service credit from DRS for the period of time they were paid for the hours that aren't qualified as reportable to DRS.
